Weight management is an issue affecting many people in modern day life. The food companies supply highly processed food, often with a high sugar content. Hypnotherapy can help, your conscious mind may be saying, 'I should not eat that ice cream' but your subconscious mind will remind you how nice it was last time. Using the power of hypnosis your subconscious mind can be aligned with your conscious thoughts to give you control over your desires and impulses for food. The feeling of control grows and the desires diminish, motivation increases and goals can be attained.

Don't be fooled though, this can be a long process, we are looking at losing between 1 and 3 pounds per week in order to prevent the body going into starvation mode. During the hypnotherapy sessions while under hypnosis your subconscious mind is encouraged to eat smaller portions and to eat them slowly, avoiding sugar. alcohol and caffeine.

Despite common knowledge that smoking is really bad for our health it can be an incredibly hard habit to break.There are many different reasons why people start smoking and also there are many motivations and reasons for why people continue to smoke.

It is vitally important for the hypnotherapist to fully understand the motivations and reasons why a person smokes for therapy to be tailored for the individual. That is why at Sheffield Hypnotherapy we conduct a 15-20 minute preliminary telephone interview to understand the reasons and plan the therapy accordingly.

Therapy isn't restricted to the session, all clients receive a reinforcement CD to be used away from the hypnotherapy session. A decision is taken, does the client require a 10 step prepare to quit program or can we go straight to a quit at the first session approach. The therapist will explain how and why hypnotherapy is so affective when helping a person to quit when they have the motivation and desire required and sincerely wish to quit.

A phobia is an irrational fear, apparently the most common of all phobias is the fear of puiblic speaking. There number of phobias is almost endless but the most common ones are fears of, spiders, dogs, confined spaces, flying, injections, driving and heights.

A true fear has a rational reason, there is an event that can attributed as the reason for the fear. Therefore many of the phobias mantioned above can also be true fears. A fear of spiders culd be due to being bitten by a spider, similarly with a dog. Also a flying or driving incident could instill a genuine fear.

It is important for the hypnotherapist to identify the fear as a true fear or a phobia. This will influence the style of therapy used to resolve the issue and improve the chances of success.

Confidence is fundamental in helping us to achieve our goals. If we undertake anything with a lack of confidence then it is much more likely to fail. Hypnotherapy can help promote confidence and self esteem. 

This could be confidence to achieve a goal, such as going on holiday alone to a distant location, performing in front of an audience or making life changing decisions.

When under hypnosis you are totally focused and able to make decisions with clarity. Hypnosis can then help to give you the confidence and determination to follow trough with the decision.

Everyone suffers from stress and anxiety at some point in their lives, some people deal better with it than others. Life events can be very stressful, work, moving home, getting married and even buying a car, the list is almost endless.

Stress and anxiety can affect our health, relationships, prosperity and general well being. Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed and focused state, this state can be associated with everyday situations and used to desensitize the person to the situation.

An example might be the stress caused by a work colleague or boss, under hypnosis a person can be desensitized to what they do that is causing the stress and anxiety. This concept can be applied to many situations and events.

Preemptive anxiety affects many people, this is where the anxiety or stress is brought about by preempting a situation or event. There is a saying, I have lived through many traumatic experiences, some of which actually happened. We often get more anxious and stressed at the thought of an event, than at the event itself. This can lead to issues like sexual dysfunction, under performance, phobias and confidence among many more.

Exams are often stressful times, many people can become very anxious and this can have a detrimental effect on performance. Despite hours of study and hard work, anxiety can affect memory recall and cause a mental block. Problems with sleep is unfortunately very common and there are many reasons. Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state, the hypnotic state is entered naturally every day when you are about to enter sleep and when you are coming out of sleep.

Sleep is really important, not having sufficient sleep reduces our ability to perform every day tasks to the best of our ability, stress and anxiety is increased and our quality of life decreases. Hypnotherapy can help you to relax and come to terms with the issues contributing to your insomnia. Combined with dream therapy and the suggestion to vent unnecessary emotions during late morning sleep, hypnotherapy can help you to overcome your insomnia.

Pain is controlled by the subconscious mind, hypnotherapy affects the subconscious mind and can teach the subconscious mind to reduce the intensity of the pain. Hypnotherapy can be very effective in the management of pain by changing the way an individual perceives pain messages and reducing the intensity of the pain. Before therapy can commence it is vitally important that a doctor is consulted by the client in order to verify that hypnotherapy will not be contraindicated for the client.

Pain can be induced in the body by stress and anxiety, this is known as body syndromes and can be as debilitating as pain brought about by a physical injury and can affect virtually any part of the body. Hypnotherapy can be very effective in relieving body syndrome pains by desensitizing the client to the source of the stress and anxiety.

Hypnotherapy can also be used as preparation for a surgical procedure and for post operation management of pain and discomfort and to aid recovery. 

Once pain management has been achieved the client is then taught the art of self hypnosis, using this tool the client can then reinforce the suggestions of the hypnotherapist away from the hypnotherapy session.

We all lose our temper at some point and often this is not a problem as it is an isolated incident and we retain enough self-control to allow us to quickly recover from our outburst. It is quite different if the outbursts become more regular and it feels as though you are losing control on a more frequent basis.

With the help of Hypnotherapy you can regain control, by desensitization to the triggers that are causing very strong emotion of anger you can reduce the intensity and frequency of the feeling.

Hypnotherapy is used to reinforce this new behaviour after the session through post hypnotic suggestions and a new more controlled behaviour is formed.

Although there can be medical reasons for sexual dysfunction it is more common for the problem to be caused by psychological factors. The issues are very wide ranging and affect both men and women. Once it has been determined that there are no medical reasons for the promlem, Hypnotherapy can be very effective in helping a person deal with these issues.

A very common cause is preemptive anxiety, this is anxiety brought about prior to the sexual act. this can be as the result of a previous bad experience, fear and anxiety is raised at the thought of this previous experience. In men this can lead to the inability to get an erection, in women dryness and frigidity.

A person’s sexual orientation change over time, a heterosexual may develop bisexual desires at any age, it can be very difficult to come to terms with this change. Hypnotherapy can help a person come to terms with their new sexuality, help to resolve internal and external identity conflicts and make a decision about sexual practices.
